India Welcomes 32.41 Lakh Foreign Tourists in First Four Months of 2025

According to the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), India saw a strong surge in foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in early 2025, with 32.41 lakh visitors recorded between January and April.

Key Highlights from MoT Data
- 2022 FTAs: 64.37 lakh
- 2023 FTAs: 95.21 lakh (48% growth from 2022)
- 2024 FTAs: 99.52 lakh
- 2025 (Jan–Apr): 32.41 lakh — indicating continued momentum

Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs)
- 2022: ₹1.69 lakh crore
- 2023: ₹2.66 lakh crore
- 2024: ₹2.93 lakh crore (revised)
- 2025 (Jan–Apr): ₹98,289 crore (provisional)
This marks a 73% increase in FEEs between 2022 and 2024, underscoring tourism’s growing economic impact.

Tourism’s Contribution to GDP
- 2021–22: 1.75%
- 2022–23: 5.09% (revised)
- 2023–24: 5.22% (provisional)

Government Initiatives Driving Growth
- Swadesh Darshan 2.0: Focused on sustainable, destination-centric development
- PRASHAD Scheme: Enhancing pilgrimage and spiritual heritage sites
- SASCI Scheme: ₹3,295.76 crore allocated for 40 projects across 23 states to develop iconic tourist centres.
