Swift Restoration of Airline Operations and Passenger Facilitation Measures

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has taken rapid and decisive steps to address the disruption caused by the recent IndiGo operational crisis and to ensure that passengers do not face continued inconvenience.

1. Airline Operations Recovery
- IndiGo faced a major operational crisis, but flight schedules are rapidly stabilizing.
- Flights increased from 706 on Dec 5 to 1,565 on Dec 6, with expectations of 1,650 flights by Dec 7.
- Other domestic airlines are operating smoothly at full capacity.

2. Airfare Regulation
- Temporary surge in fares due to cancellations led MoCA to cap airfares immediately.
- This ensured affordability and fairness for passengers.
- Airlines must comply strictly with the revised fare structure.

3. Passenger Refunds & Rescheduling
- IndiGo ordered to process all refunds by 8:00 PM on Dec 7.
- Refunds worth ₹610 crore have already been completed.
- No extra fees allowed for rescheduling travel impacted by cancellations.
- Dedicated support cells set up to assist passengers.

4. Baggage Handling
- IndiGo instructed to trace and deliver separated baggage within 48 hours.
- Continuous communication with passengers mandated.
- Already delivered 3,000 pieces of baggage across India.

5. Airport Operations
- Major airports (Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Goa) report normal conditions.
- Passenger movement is smooth with no crowding at check-in, security, or boarding.
- On-ground support strengthened with CISF and airport operators.

6. Real-Time Monitoring
- MoCA’s 24×7 Control Room oversees flight operations, airport conditions, and passenger support.
- Teams deployed on the ground to supervise crew rostering and passenger handling standards.
- Passenger calls are being promptly attended to.

7. Assurance to Passengers
- Government emphasizes safety, convenience, and dignity as top priorities.
- Aviation network is moving swiftly toward full normalcy.
- Corrective measures will remain until operations stabilize completely.

In short: The Ministry acted quickly to stabilize airline operations, cap fares, enforce refunds, and ensure smooth passenger experiences after IndiGo’s disruption.
