Key Highlights of the MoU - Partnership: Signed between the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C), the Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, and Sarla Aviation Pvt. Ltd. - Objective: Establish Goa as India’s first Coastal Aerial Mobility State by integrating VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) systems into tourism and mobility. - Infrastructure: Creation of an Advanced Design & Development Center in Goa for aerospace innovation, system design, testing, and prototype development. - Timeline: Sarla Aviation aims to expand Air Taxi operations by 2029. Strategic Vision - Tourism Boost: VTOL services will connect airports to resorts, beaches, and hinterland destinations, reducing travel time and enhancing eco-conscious tourism. - Policy Development: Goa will draft a Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Policy to guide future deployments. - Local Engagement: Hotel owners, hospitality operators, and tourism stakeholders will be involved in adopting VTOL services. - Talent Development: Focus on skilling, apprenticeships, and high-value jobs for Goan youth in aerospace and design-led industries. Role of Sarla Aviation - Backed by Accel, Nikhil Kamath, Binny Bansal, and Sriharsha Majety. - Developing a six-seater electric VTOL aircraft to ease road congestion with clean, efficient aerial mobility. - Establishing a long-term base in Goa as a hub for aerospace innovation and creativity.
