Indian Railways revised fare structure effective from 26 December 2025

The Railways has rationalised its passenger fare structure with effect from 26 December 2025, with the objective of balancing affordability for passengers and sustainability of operations.

No fare increase for:
- Suburban services
- Season tickets (suburban & non-suburban)
- Second Class Ordinary journeys up to 215 km

Ordinary Non-AC (Non-Suburban) services:
- Second Class Ordinary:
- 0–215 km → No increase
- 216–750 km → +₹5
- 751–1250 km → +₹10
- 1251–1750 km → +₹15
- 1751–2250 km → +₹20

Sleeper Class Ordinary & First Class Ordinary:
- Uniform increase of 1 paise per km (non-suburban journeys).

Mail/Express trains (AC & Non-AC):
- Increase of 2 paise per km across all classes (Sleeper, First Class, AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier, AC 2-Tier, AC First Class).
- Example: A 500 km journey in non-AC Mail/Express → about ₹10 extra.

Other Conditions
- No changes in:
- Reservation fees
- Superfast surcharges
- Ancillary charges

- GST applicability: Unchanged.
- Fare rounding rules: Continue as per existing norms.
- Applicability: Only tickets booked on/after 26 Dec 2025.
- Tickets booked earlier remain unaffected, even for future travel.

Impact
- Short-distance commuters (daily travelers) are protected.
- Long-distance fares see only modest increases.
- Major trains (Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Humsafar, etc.) revised in line with class-wise increases.
