On December 25, 2025, the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI) officially commenced airside operations with its very first commercial flight.

Inaugural Flight Details
- First arrival:
IndiGo flight 6E460 from Bengaluru, touched down at 08:00 hrs.

- Ceremonial welcome:
The aircraft was greeted with a water cannon salute, a traditional aviation gesture marking the airport’s first commercial touchdown.

- First departure:
IndiGo flight 6E882 to Hyderabad, took off at 08:40 hrs, completing the inaugural arrival–departure cycle.

Significance
- Capacity boost: NMIA is designed to ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
- Regional impact: It will play a critical role in the long-term growth of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
- Civil aviation milestone: Marks a new chapter in India’s aviation infrastructure, positioning Navi Mumbai as a major hub from day one.
