Israel Ministry of Tourism Signs Strategic MoU with TAAI to Strengthen Tourism Ties with India

The Israel Ministry of Tourism (IMOT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) during TAAI's 69th Convention & Exhibition held in Kolkata from 25–27 October 2026. The agreement is aimed at strengthening tourism cooperation and enhancing engagement between Israel and the Indian travel trade.

Key Highlights
- The MoU was signed by Galit Hoffman, Consul for Tourism Affairs, Israel Ministry of Tourism, India, and Sunil Kumar, President of TAAI.
- The agreement establishes a framework for long-term collaboration between IMOT and TAAI.
- Key areas of cooperation include:
- Joint tourism roadshows across India
- Destination training and educational programs
- Familiarization (FAM) tours for travel professionals
- Joint marketing and promotional initiatives
- Enhanced destination awareness and travel trade engagement

Objectives of the Partnership
The collaboration seeks to:
- Increase awareness of Israel as a tourism destination among Indian travelers.
- Strengthen destination knowledge among Indian travel professionals.
- Create new tourism opportunities between India and Israel.
- Support travel agents with better understanding of Israel's tourism products and experiences.

Leadership Perspectives
- Galit Hoffman, Consul for Tourism Affairs, Israel Ministry of Tourism, India, emphasized the importance of strong travel trade partnerships in expanding Israel's presence in India. She noted that TAAI's extensive network offers an effective platform to engage more travel professionals and capitalize on the growing interest in Israel among Indian travelers.

- Sunil Kumar, President of TAAI, highlighted that the partnership will create new opportunities for TAAI members while enabling them to gain deeper insights into Israel's tourism offerings, helping them better serve the changing preferences of Indian travelers.

Israel's Broader India Strategy
The MoU is part of IMOT's wider efforts to expand Israel's positioning beyond its traditional image as a pilgrimage destination. Israel aims to promote a diverse range of experiences, including:
- Culture and heritage tourism
- Leisure and family vacations
- Luxury travel
- Adventure tourism
- Culinary experiences
- MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions)

Growing Momentum
The agreement follows several recent initiatives by IMOT, including:
- A three-city roadshow in New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, its first such outreach program in India in nearly seven years.
- A separate MoU with the Outbound Tour Operators Association of India (OTOAI).
- The planned resumption of Air India's direct Delhi-Tel Aviv flights from 1 December 2026, with five weekly services.

Why This Matters
The partnership demonstrates Israel's commitment to strengthening its presence in the Indian outbound travel market. By working closely with TAAI and other industry stakeholders, IMOT aims to improve destination awareness, equip travel advisors with stronger product knowledge, and drive growth in leisure, business, and special-interest travel between India and Israel. The resumption of direct air connectivity is expected to further support tourism growth and make Israel more accessible to Indian travelers.
