Delhi Airport strengthens position as India's global aviation hub with 160 destinations
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, operated and managed by the GMR Aero-led consortium, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), is strengthening its position as India's principal global aviation gateway, connecting 160 destinations — 70 international and 90 domestic — through a network of 70 airlines.
Connectivity strength:

Global ranking:
Climbed 11 places in the OAG Megahubs Index 2026, now ranked 28th worldwide (up from 39th in 2025).
Transfer traffic:
Handles ~50,000 transfer passengers daily, nearly 1.5 million monthly.
LCC hub leadership:
Recognized as the world’s leading Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) Megahub with 11,045 potential connections.
New routes:
Added Beijing and Namangan internationally, plus Bareilly, Daman, Ambikapur, Halwara, and Kishangarh domestically.
Upcoming gateways:
- Philippine Airlines → Delhi–Manila (Nov 2026)
- EVA Air → Delhi–Taipei (Dec 2026, first direct link to Taiwan)
- Talks with Russia, Mongolia, and African carriers for new direct routes.
What makes Delhi’s model unique compared to hubs like Dubai or Singapore is its domestic-first strategy: a vast Indian city network feeding into international routes. This creates a powerful catchment area that attracts more airlines and destinations, reinforcing its hub status.
The airport is also working on passenger convenience upgrades, like airside transfers between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, which would eliminate the time-consuming landside transfer.
