Southern Railway has now achieved a major milestone by completing the electrification of its entire Broad Gauge (BG) network covering 5,068 Route Kilometres (RKM) across the Zone.
100% Electrification Milestone
- Southern Railway has completed electrification of its entire Broad Gauge (BG) network covering 5,068 Route Kilometres (RKM).
- The final stretch was the 71 RKM Pattukkottai–Karaikkudi section, inspected on 9 September 2026 by Shri Ganesh, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer.
- This marks the Zone’s transition to seamless electric train operations without traction change.
