The Lufthansa Group is appointing new executives to several leadership positions within its Group companies.
Edelweiss:
- New CEO: Edi Wolfensberger (currently COO of Eurowings) → effective 1 Oct 2026.
- Outgoing: Bernd Bauer, who has been CEO since 2014 and also led Discover Airlines (2022–2025).
Eurowings:
- New COO: Matthias Spohr (currently head of Lufthansa Aviation Training, also an A320 captain) → effective 1 Oct 2026.
- Successor for Lufthansa Aviation Training yet to be announced.
Lufthansa City Airlines:
- New CEO: Michael Kircher (from Austrian Airlines, Head of Training and A320 captain) → effective 1 Nov 2026.
- Outgoing: Peter Albers, who will return full-time to flying duties as Lufthansa captain.
Departing Leaders
- Bernd Bauer: Credited with positioning Edelweiss as a flagship leisure airline and steering Discover Airlines through its early years.
- Peter Albers: Oversaw the foundation and growth of Lufthansa City Airlines since 2024.
Strategic Impact
- Strengthens continuity within the Group: all successors are internal leaders with deep Lufthansa experience.
