United Accelerates Starlink Wi-Fi Rollout with First Widebody Transatlantic Flight

United is the largest airline across both the Atlantic and Pacific and will leverage Starlink, the world's most advanced satellite network, to deliver fast and reliable internet access for Mileage Plus® members, including over oceans, polar regions and other remote locations previously unreachable by traditional cell or Wi-Fi signals

First transatlantic widebody with Starlink:
On 23 June 20226 United Flight 14 from Newark to London on a Boeing 777-200 is the airline’s first overseas widebody customer flight equipped with Starlink.

Fleet expansion:
Nearly 60 widebody aircraft will be equipped this year, with the entire widebody fleet outfitted by next summer.

Scale:
Over 400 planes already have Starlink, and United expects close to 1,000 aircraft by year-end.

Global coverage:
Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellites provide reliable internet even over oceans, polar regions, and remote areas where traditional inflight Wi-Fi struggles.

Customer perks:
MileagePlus members get free Starlink Wi-Fi, with notifications before boarding if their flight is equipped.

Enhanced experiences:
- Real-time gaming
- Seamless shopping and trip planning
- Work collaboration with uploads/downloads
- Multi-device connectivity across phones, tablets, laptops, and seatback screens

Since launch last spring, United has flown 18.6 million passengers on Starlink-equipped aircraft across 311,000 flights, powering 9.9 million devices — and customer satisfaction scores nearly doubled.

This rollout positions United as the first airline to truly deliver “home-like” internet in the sky, not just for streaming but for productivity and real-time engagement.
