CMRL has introduced Singara Chennai Card – National Common Mobility Card since 14.04.2023 in addition to the CMRL Travel card. As per Government of India guidelines CMRL has planned to completely switchover to Singara Chennai Card – National Common Mobility Card from 01.05.2026 for seamless travel in public transports of India. Key Change - Effective Date: May 1, 2026 - Action: Discontinuation of the CMRL Travel Card system. Replacement & Alternatives - Passengers will need to switch to QR code tickets or National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC) for travel. - The move is part of CMRL’s push toward digital ticketing and integrated mobility solutions. Why It Matters - Simplifies fare collection and reduces reliance on physical cards. - Aligns Chennai Metro with national standards for smart, interoperable transport systems. - Expected to improve efficiency and passenger convenience, especially for those using multiple modes of transport.
