The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced that it will open a permanent office in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, along with launching a Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) before the end of 2026. This move is aimed at strengthening Uzbekistan’s role as a growing aviation hub in Central Asia. Strategic Presence: The new office will allow IATA experts to work closely with airlines and airports in Uzbekistan to implement global safety and operational standards. Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP): This system will enable airlines to process financial transactions more efficiently and expand global product distribution, boosting international connectivity. Economic Impact: Aviation already contributes about 0.9% to Uzbekistan’s GDP and supports over 128,000 jobs. With supportive government policies, this share could grow significantly. Infrastructure Growth: New airports in Tashkent, Bukhara, and Urgench are under development to meet rising passenger and cargo demand. Sustainability Focus: Uzbekistan is exploring Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production, leveraging its Gas-to-Liquids expertise to support cleaner energy and potential exports. Tourism & Cargo: Aviation supports nearly USD 796 million in GDP, with international tourism adding around USD 2 billion annually. Cargo volumes are also expected to rise with new facilities at Tashkent and Navoi airports. This step positions Uzbekistan to become a stronger regional hub, connecting Central Asia with Asia, the Caucasus, and Europe.
