Cabinet approves Jaipur Metro Project Phase-2

The Union Cabinet has approved the Jaipur Metro Project Phase‑2, a major expansion that will reshape urban mobility in the city.

Project Overview
- Length & Alignment: 41 km North–South corridor from Prahladpura to Todi Mod, with 36 stations.
- Cost: ₹13,037.66 crore.
- Implementing Agency: Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL), a 50:50 JV between the Government of India and Government of Rajasthan.
- Integration: Will connect seamlessly with Phase‑1 (East–West corridor, 11.64 km, 11 stations) through interchanges and feeder systems.

Connectivity & Benefits
- Key Nodes: Sitapura Industrial Area, VKIA, Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital & Stadium, Ambabari, Vidhyadhar Nagar.
- Underground Stations: Planned near the airport for smooth access.
- Ridership Impact: Phase‑1 currently serves ~60,000 daily passengers; Phase‑2 is expected to multiply ridership significantly.
- Urban Impact: Reduced traffic congestion, lower emissions, and improved accessibility for residents, workers, and tourists.

Appraisal & Viability
- Economic Internal Rate of Return (EIRR): Above 14%, confirming strong socio‑economic viability.
- Funding Structure: Equity support from both governments, subordinate debt, and multilateral financing under Metro Rail Policy 2017.
- Policy Alignment: Rajasthan TOD Policy‑2025, UMTA reforms, and national sustainable transport objectives.

Timeline
- Target Completion: September 2031.
- Vision: Strengthening Jaipur’s position as a modern, future‑ready city, contributing to Viksit Bharat and Viksit Rajasthan.

This expansion will complement the existing East–West corridor and deliver pan‑Jaipur connectivity, making public transport the backbone of the city’s growth.
