Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will flag off two Amrit Bharat express, two Express trains and a passenger train from Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu and another passenger train from Ernakulum in Kerala on 11 March 2026. Amrit Bharat Express (2 trains) 1. Podanur–Dhanbad Amrit Bharat Express - Weekly service linking Coimbatore’s industrial hub with Jharkhand’s coal belt. - Route: Podanur → Coimbatore → Salem → Renigunta → Vijayawada → Jharsuguda → Ranchi → Dhanbad. - Affordable sleeper and general-class coaches, Divyangjan-accessible, no dynamic fare surging. - Designed for migrant workers and long-distance travelers between South India and the East. 2. Nagercoil–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express - First direct Amrit Bharat link from Tamil Nadu’s southern coast to Telangana. - Serves districts from Kanniyakumari up to Hyderabad’s outskirts. - Connects students, workers, and families across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Express Trains (2 trains) - Rameswaram–Mangaluru Express - Tirunelveli–Mangaluru Express - Both provide new direct connectivity from Tamil Nadu’s southern districts through Coimbatore to Karnataka’s coastal city of Mangaluru. Passenger Trains (2 trains) Mayiladuthurai–Thiruvarur–Karaikkudi Passenger - Benefits the agriculturally rich Cauvery Delta districts (Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga). Palakkad–Pollachi Passenger - Strengthens daily commuter and trade links between Kerala and Tamil Nadu, offering clean, electric rail connectivity. Infrastructure Projects in Kerala Redeveloped Amrit Stations: Shoranur, Kuttippuram, Changanassery. - Modern amenities: upgraded platforms, lifts, escalators, free Wi-Fi, facades inspired by local art. - Cost: ₹52 crore. Shoranur–Nilambur Line Electrification - 65 km corridor, cost ₹90 crore. - Eliminates diesel traction, reduces emissions, and enables faster passenger/freight services. Broader Context - These inaugurations expand the Amrit Bharat Express network to 58 trains nationwide since its launch in 2024. - The initiative embodies the Viksit Bharat vision, stitching together secondary and tertiary cities into India’s economic fabric. - The trains are built under Make in India at the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, with modern interiors and speeds up to 130 km/h. This rollout is a major step in connecting South India’s industrial and agrarian belts with the energy and education hubs of the East and Deccan, while also modernizing Kerala’s rail infrastructure.
