Chicago visitors hail Biennale as a platform from young, marginalised voices

Aspinwall House, Fort Kochi, turned into a meeting of global and local perspectives as an international group from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) visited the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, describing it as an event that gives space to young, marginalised, and international voices.

Global-local exchange:
Aspinwall House in Fort Kochi hosted a group from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) — 20 students and 2 faculty members.

Platform for voices:
Visitors described the Biennale as giving space to young, marginalised, and international voices, making it a unique cultural forum in South Asia.

Faculty perspective:
Shaurya Kumar (SAIC faculty) praised the openness of curators and the chance to interact with artists worldwide. He emphasized how the Biennale encourages reflection on past and future through art.

Student response:
Merlin, a student and zine collector, felt a strong connection to the Panjiri Artist Union’s video installation and zines, calling the experience deeply personal and meaningful.

Indian film presence:
Director C Prem Kumar (known for 96) visited the Biennale for the first time, saying it “opens your mind” and leaves a lasting impression.

In short, the Biennale was celebrated as a living platform for diverse, emerging voices and as a space that bridges global and local perspectives through art.
