Air India group deploys SITA OptiFlight® & SITA eWAS to cut carbon emissions and save fuel

Air India Group has taken a major leap toward sustainability by deploying SITA OptiFlight® and SITA eWAS, two cutting-edge digital solutions designed to optimize flight operations and reduce environmental impact.

What’s Being Deployed?
- SITA OptiFlight®: A suite of decision intelligence modules, including *OptiClimb*, which uses aircraft-specific performance models and 4D weather forecasts to optimize climb-out schedules—one of the most fuel-intensive phases of flight.
- SITA eWAS: Provides pilots with real-time weather updates and predictive forecasts, helping them avoid turbulence, reroute efficiently, and make smarter in-flight decisions.

Impact at Scale
- Carbon Emissions Reduction: Estimated to cut 35,000 tons of CO₂ annually
- Fuel Savings: Approximately 11,100 tons per year
- Fleet Coverage: Active across Air India’s Airbus A320 and Air India Express’s Boeing 737 fleets, with plans to expand to widebody aircraft soon

Leadership Insights
- Sumesh Patel, President, Asia Pacific, SITA: “Smart digital technologies like these unlock real operational value while addressing environmental pressures.”
- Basil Kwauk, COO, Air India: “Sustainability and efficiency are core to our transformation into a world-class airline.”

This move aligns with Air India’s broader modernization strategy and reflects a growing industry trend toward intelligent, data-driven aviation.
