The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the signing of a new Ginger Hotel in Shillong, marking the brand’s debut in Meghalaya. Location: Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, known as the Scotland of the East. Project Type: Greenfield development under the Smart City program. Capacity: 90-key hotel. Facilities: - Signature all-day dining restaurant Qmin - Stylish bar - Meeting room - Fitness centre Target Guests: Both business and leisure travelers. Strategic Importance - Shillong is evolving into a major administrative and economic hub, making it an ideal location for Ginger’s lean-luxe hospitality model. - The property will complement IHCL’s growing footprint in the Northeast, where it will now have three hotels in Meghalaya (including one under development). - This expansion aligns with IHCL’s strategy to strengthen its presence in emerging markets and cater to India’s rising domestic tourism demand. Local Partnership - The project is being developed in collaboration with Mr. Khongsngi, a Shillong-based real estate developer and President of the Khasi Hills Archery Sports Institute (KHASI), which promotes traditional archery in the region. This move reflects IHCL’s commitment to blending modern hospitality with local culture, offering travelers a fresh way to experience Shillong’s charm.
