Solar-Powered Railway Stations – Key Highlights - As of November 2025, 2,626 railway stations across India are powered by solar energy. - In the current financial year alone, 318 new stations were added to the solar network. - Indian Railways has commissioned 898 MW of solar power capacity, a massive leap from just 3.68 MW in 2014 — nearly 244 times growth. Energy Utilization - 629 MW of solar power is used for traction purposes, directly supporting electric train operations. - The remaining 269 MW meets non-traction needs such as: - Station lighting - Workshops - Service buildings - Railway quarters Sustainability & Impact - Solar installations at stations, buildings, and railway land are helping reduce dependence on conventional energy. - These efforts improve energy security, enhance efficiency, and support India’s decarbonisation goals. - This initiative is part of Indian Railways’ commitment to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2030.
