The Junkers Ju 52 and Lockheed L-1649A Super Star have now been finally accepted at “Lufthansa Group Hangar One.” Historic Aircraft Restored - Lufthansa has completed the restoration and assembly of two iconic aircraft at Hangar One near Frankfurt Airport: - Junkers Ju 52 (“Aunt Ju”) – first added to Lufthansa’s fleet in 1932, known for its corrugated metal design, three engines, and reliability. It became the backbone of the airline’s fleet in the 1930s. - Lockheed L-1649A Super Star – joined in 1957, introducing Lufthansa’s Senator class (exclusive long-haul travel). Famous for its non-stop transatlantic flights to New York and as the last great piston-engine airliner. Lufthansa Group Hangar One - Located near the Lufthansa Aviation Center (LAC) at Frankfurt Airport. - Built as a conference and visitor center, combining corporate collaboration spaces with public exhibition areas. - Features a glass façade allowing visitors to admire the aircraft from outside. - Includes an open gallery showcasing Lufthansa’s corporate history, with many exhibits on public display for the first time. Exhibition & Anniversary - The aircraft will be the main attractions of Hangar One’s permanent exhibition. - A large picture gallery documents their journey from delivery in parts to final assembly. - The opening coincides with Lufthansa’s 100th anniversary in 2026, celebrating its pioneering role in aviation.
