Step by step guide to renew your passport online

A passport is indeed a crucial document for identity verification and international travel. It's essential to keep it updated to ensure hassle-free travel experiences. In India, the standard validity period for a passport is 10 years for adults. Renewal can be initiated one year before expiry or up to three years after expiry, with a recommended renewal period of nine months prior to expiration to circumvent any travel disruptions. For minors, the passport is valid for five years or until they turn 18, whichever is earlier. If you are between 15 and 18, you can choose to get a passport that is valid for 10 years. Post-18, they are eligible to renew their passport online, and those aged between 15 to 18 have the option to obtain a 10-year validity passport.

How to renew your passport online

Step 1: Go to the Passport Seva website.

Step 2: If you haven't registered yet, you'll need to do so. Just follow the instructions to register and get your login ID.

Step 3: Log in to the portal using your login details.

Step 4: Select the option that says 'Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport'.

Step 5: Fill in all the required details accurately.

Step 6: Choose the 'Pay and Schedule Appointment' option.

Step 7: Make your payment using one of the available payment methods.

Step 8: Submit your form once you've filled it out completely.

Step 9: Choose 'Print Application Receipt'.

Step 10: On the scheduled date, visit your nearest Passport Seva Kendra with all the necessary documents and your application form.

How to book an appointment for your passport renewal

Step 1: Log in to the Passport Seva website using your credentials.

Step 2: Select the option labelled 'View Saved and Submitted Application' and then click on 'Pay and Schedule Appointment'.

Step 3: Pick a payment method and choose the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) where you'd like to go.

Step 4: Verify your chosen PSK location by entering the CAPTCHA code displayed.

Step 5: Select a suitable appointment slot from the available dates and click on 'Pay and Book the Appointment'.
